This is a great opportunity to make a head study in clay from a live model! Learn to see the simple form of the head and then to employ clay drawing methodology to develop the features over the 3 days. Emphasis will be placed on striving for the particular character of the sitter through guided observation of form and proportions.
In this energetic 3 day course you will be guided to develop your ideas from drawings and quick clay sketches, or make a study to produce a limestone sculpture. The subtractive process of carving is challenging, rewarding, and immediate. Learn to "see" the sculpture in the block and how to materialise it whilst learning about the tools and methods of carving and developing your sculptural language.
If you’ve ever had an inkling that you’d like to make a sculpture, but haven’t found the time or known where to start then this is the perfect course for you!
These intensive workshops provide fantastic opportunities to hone your skills and broaden your horizons within a particular area of sculpture or drawing. Damien’s 24 + years experience of teaching is available directly to you and will guide you along your journey in the visual arts!

During this lively two-day workshop you’ll be guided to produce your own limestone sculpture based on ideas developed from drawings, clay sketches, or a study. Learn to visualise the sculpture within the block and then bring it to life whilst learning about the tools and methods of carving. You'll also develop your sense of sculptural language. The physical and energetic nature of the carving process means that this workshop is bound to be both challenging and fun for participants. The workshop caters to all levels of artistic experience - from beginners wanting to try something new, to proficient artists.

The Life Study is one of the most challenging and rewarding endeavours in sculpture. It is essentially a study of nature with the luxury of having a live model who may create infinite variations for us to study. This is where we really learn to “see”.
The class begins with drawing as the class, teacher, and model settle on a pose which best serves as a sculptural study and also brings out the unique “essence” of the particular model.
A weekend workshop exploring the fundamentals of drawing by bringing awareness to rhythm, proportions, and form. Day 1: Seeing Through Form, Suitable for beginners to intermediate. Day 2: The Essence of the Figure, Suitable for all levels.

Your kids will enjoy learning about different ways of making sculpture which will give them a fun and simple introduction to this ancient tradition. We'll explore different approaches to using air drying clay to model different shapes and characters, as well as some simplified plaster mould making and casting. We'll also have a go at some safe carving! Some watercolour/acrylic painting will be used to brighten up the projects too!
This workshop is a great way for you to set your personal intention for the year. You may have a symbol or theme that is already clear to you, or it may arise through a guided process of discussion, meditation, and drawing which will lead you to a starting point for your sculptural project. You may also consider recent dreams that you have had. All of these processes will help you tap into the unconscious and bring a greater connection between it and your conscious mind - thus clarifying, strengthening, and manifesting your resolve for your growth for the year ahead.
